Why did We the People rebel against the rule by England? People have offered various explanations. Some are very idealistic. Some are more critical. Recent events have caused me to realize there may be another reason that has been overlooked so far: the right and obligation of Americans to play Russian roulette with their own lives and those of their children.

Consider the events of the past few days and weeks. People have been minding their own business. They have been going about the routine events in life. I am not talking about people who refuse to be vaccinated. Nor am I referring to people engage in daredevil activities where one is often required to sign a release before participating. Quite the contrary. I am referring to routine events in the lives of people that they never give second thought to. Now we know better.

Now it is the official policy of the United States of America, that We the People should consider what had been the routine acts of ordinary Americans as acts of Russian roulette.

We the People are playing Russian roulette with our lives and those of our children when they go to school.

We the People are playing Russian roulette with our lives and those of our children when we go shopping.

We the People are playing Russian roulette with our lives and those of our children when we go to church.

Think of the anti-vaxxers who justify their action because they could be hit by a bus. Or by a car. When your number is up, your number is up. And that means at school, the mall, or church.

This right, even obligation, to play Russian roulette with your life is sacred to Republican legislators. Nothing should be done which would deny you that right.

OUR HEARTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU

How many times have you heard this platitude in the past few weeks? Enough to make you throw something at the TV screen or stomp on you cell phone. What a bunch of bull-trump. It may make sense for people who are directly related to those who have been murdered or who are connected in some way with the investigation. But for all others, what is the meaning of reciting this platitude?

Do people who piously deliver these words actually pray for the murdered people?

Do they participate in some memorial or service hundreds or thousands of miles away where they express their grief and sorrow?

Do they take any other action beyond the reciting of these words?

We know what the answer is especially if one is a Republican legislator. It is business as usual. No action will be taken which might minimize the chances of a repeat shooting of four or more people anytime, anywhere. That is how the game of Russian roulette is played.

 

Instead the message being delivered now is a quite simple one: every American has a 007 License to Kill. That is why the Founding Fathers founded this country. That is why the Founding Fathers corrected the Constitution with the Second Amendment. We need well-armed militias to be organized, trained, and armed not to protect us against the British, the French, the Indians, or grizzlies, but to protect us when we shop, when we pray, and when we take our children go to school.

BODY ARMOR

What every American needs is body armor. Right now only the shooter and the police have body armor. What about the rest of us? It is perfectly fine for us to play Russian roulette when we go to the mall, to school, and to church, but that does not mean we have to be so exposed. Shouldn’t we have the same right and ability to protect ourselves that soldiers on the frontlines have or the police have? Where is the legislation to provide Americans with body armor we need so we can go about our daily business with peace of mind?

People love living with uncertainty. People love never knowing what may happen. Think of the stress of a battered woman or child in the home of an abuser. Home is supposed to be the place of the least stress, where we can relax, where we can let down our guard. Instead in the home of an abuser, one never knows what may happen. We need to bring that level of stress and uncertainty into the street so we always will be looking over our shoulder and jumping at the slightest sound. Only then will we have fulfilled the vision of the Founding Fathers in making every moment a stressful one.
